Parish Nurse/Faith Community Nurse

Journey Community Church is seeking a part-time, stipend position of a Parish Nurse/Faith Community Nurse. This position is an opportunity to serve God in a faith-based setting by caring for Journey members and neighbors. The position focuses on the promotion of health within the context of the mission and vision of Journey Community Church.

This position includes a $1000.00 a month stipend from the Board of Deacons for 10 to 20 hours a week. The position would work with the Board of Deacons and the Associate Pastor of Care and Visitation and provide the following Integration of Faith and Health:

1.      Health Educator—Providing health information on bulletin boards, in newsletters, and in classes.

2.      Personal Health Counselor—Discussing health concerns with individuals as appropriate.

3.      Developer/Facilitator of Support Groups, and Health Fairs.

4.      Advocate and resource-referral agent for people to appropriately utilize health care resources.

5.      May include visits in homes, hospitals, and nursing homes, where members are present.

6.      Officed with Stephen Ministry Caregivers.

7.      Flexible hours but expected to attend Worship Service on Sunday.

This ministry/program does not include “hands-on” nursing like filling pills, bathing, and changing wounds. The ministry does involve assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care, which allows the parish nurse to focus on member’s strengths and areas for growth.
